Smith traveled to Europe, becoming the first prophet to visit the Saints on this continent while serving as president of the Mormon Church.

temple mormonDuring his visit he made an important prophecy while visiting Bern, Switzerland. He declared that the time would come when the world would be dotted with temples (Mormon temples).

That prophecy has found literal fulfillment in the temple building work accomplished nearly a century later by President Gordon B. Hinckley.
